Absolutely.
Just because there isn't anything in our galaxy doesn't mean that the universe as a whole doesn't have something, somewhere. I mean, the universe is ever expanding, reaching out beyond what we know -- most physicists won't even say where it definitely begins or ends. Who's to say that there aren't other races out there.
As to whether or not we should find them ... I say why the hell not? It's part of the human condition, after all. We are meant to reach out beyond what we know about ourselves and find a connection somewhere in the world. If we do it on Earth, there's no reason why we shouldn't do it on a grander level.
